Yes, learning music can be fun!

Maar's Music has been providing music lessons in the Peterborough area for over 20 years. Our focus is to provide friendly, unpretentious and informative lessons customized to your needs. Our roster of talented instructors is available for guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele, slide guitar, banjo, piano and drum lessons. We also provide high level classical guitar instructions courtesy of Gordon O'Brien.

Our rates are competitive (starting at $20 per weekly 30 minute private lesson) and we make signing up simple. The first lesson can be paid just before the lesson starts. After that, we ask students to pay up until the end of any current lesson month -- simple as that.

First steps!

Learning to play an instrument is one of the greatest joys life has to offer!
Here's some advice to get you started:

1. Think about a handful of songs that you'd like to learn. This is great way to express what you're interested in to your teacher -- it allows them to choose a direction for studies and skill development.

2. Set aside a few quiet minutes daily for focused practice. Not all time spent "playing" with an instrument counts as "practice". Even 5 minutes a day (to start) of quality practice time can help you develop the skills required to improve your musical abilities.

Have a notebook, keep track, work slowly and correctly, use a metronome -- don't practice mistakes -- use the best posture & technique possible and work on something specific.

3. Have fun -- it's supposed to be enjoyable -- don't be hard on yourself. Most progress doesn't come during practice, but it comes form practice. Take a break, don't get frustrated and come back the next day and you'll almost certainly notice regular improvement if you follow step 2!
